The Grascals

2017 - Mountain Home Music Company.  We first introduced you to The Grascals in 2008 when they released their Keep On Walkin’ album.  At the time we felt that this was a very talented group.  However, over the years we have somewhat renounced that statement.  Sure they can pick, perform and sing; but they just can not find the right songs for their projects.  This group tends to fill their albums with covers of well known songs and this project is no different. In this album we discovered seven, possibly eight covers out of twelve songs.  Why?  Why would you waste our time with an album filled with covers when you have a very talented songwriter amongst your band?  Band member Terry Smith shows us his writing talents in “Lonesome.”  Plus you have the talents of Terry Eldredge!  Why? The covers contained in this project include Kenny Chesney’s 2007 hit song “Demons,” Big Daddy Weave’s 2015 song “I’ve Been Redeemed,” “Pathway of Teardrops” that was written and recorded in 1960 by Webb Pierce, the 1952 hit song “He Took Your Place” that was written and recorded by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, and a Flatt Lonesome song called “There Is You.”  Other possible covers include Becky Buller’s “Sleepin’ With The Reaper” and “Beer Tree” which was written by Harley Allen and Robert Ellis Orrall.  Yes The Grascals can perform—but they can only perform covers.  Again, performing covers only proves—PROVES– that you are a cover band and nothing more! I challenge this group to record a project that is filled with originals, will they accept? I score it high for Terry Smith’s song $$
